FAQ - Frequently asked questions about Croatian tolls

There is no Croatia vignette, the toll is paid directly at the toll booths in Croatia and charged according to the distance travelled and the respective vehicle class. There are 3 different toll operators (HAC, BINA and AZM) for the Croatian motorway network.

How can I pay the toll in Croatia if I do not have a toll box?

If you do not have a toll box in Croatia, a ticket is taken out when you enter the motorway, and the toll costs incurred are paid in cash or by credit card when you leave the motorway. The amount of the motorway toll depends on the distance travelled and the respective vehicle category.

How do you calculate the cost of the motorway toll in Croatia?

Passenger car

Vehicles over 1.9 m in overall height are classified in a higher category. However, superstructures, such as roof boxes, are not included in this calculation.

Vehicles with trailers

Cars, buses and trucks are classified according to the number of axles (≤/> 2, 3, 4), the weight of the towing vehicle (≤/> 3.5 t) and the vehicle height (≤/> 1.9 m).

Motorhomes

Motorhomes are classified according to the number of axles (≤/> 2, 3, 4), the gross vehicle weight (≤/> 3.5 t) and the vehicle height (≤/> 1.9 m).

Class 1A
Motorcycles (also with sidecar), trikes and quads.

Class 1
Vehicles (2 axles) ≤ 3.5 t mwa, height < 1.9 m.

Class 2
Vehicles (2 axles) ≤ 3.5 t mwa, height>1.9 m without trailer or vehicles (2 axles) ≤ 3.5 t mwa, height < 1.9 m with trailer (regardless of the number of axles).

Class 3
Vehicles (2 or 3 axles)>3.5 t mwa or vehicles with 2 axles > 3.5 t mwa with 1-axle trailer or vehicles ≤ 3.5 t mwa and height > 1.9 m with trailer (regardless of the number of axles).

Class 4
Vehicles (from 4 axles) > 3.5 t mwa or vehicles (2 axles) > 3.5 t mwa with a 2- or 3-axle trailer or vehicles (3 axles) > 3.5 t mwa with trailer (regardless of the number of axles).

How to pay motorway tolls in Croatia?

All lanes in Croatia marked with "ENC" can be used for automatic toll collection with our toll box (at the moment only for vehicles up to 3 Meters high!). At all other lanes you can pay in cash, or by credit card. EC/Maestro cards are not accepted.
